Biography

As a law academic she has set up and led innovative programmes including an LLM Local Government Law and Policy, and established units in planning law, environmental law and sustainable development. The Sustainable Development unit won an international Green Gown Award and Times Higher Award  for innovation. She has acted as consultant/advisor to various organisations, including the AMA, OSCE, EU and worked in conflict zones in Palestine, Bosnia Hercegovnia and India.

Her legal research interests are in the role of law in sustainable development, property law (particularly indigenous land rights and rights of way/commons), planning and environmental law, and the law-science relationship. She has carried out research for the Royal Commission on Criminal Justice, Countryside Commission, and a range of other agencies. She is currently a member of the Board of Environmental Law and Management, is a member of  the SLS Legal Education Committee, a specialist member of the LEXIS/NEXIS Planning Law Advisory Panel and a member of the EAUC Future Business Panel bringing together leaders from business with HE leadership to promote sustainable approaches.
