Cambridge Centre for Property Law

The 15th Biennial Modern Studies in Property Law Conference will take place in Cambridge, centred around Queens’ College, Cambridge (https://www.queens.cam.ac.uk/) and the Cambridge Centre for Property Law (https://www.ccpl.landecon.cam.ac.uk/) between 25th-28th March 2024. The postgraduate showcase day will take place on Monday 25th, with the full Conference running from Tuesday 26th until lunchtime on Thursday 28th. There will be a Conference Dinner on Wednesday 27th.

This year’s organisers, Professor Martin Dixon (mjd1001@cam.ac.uk) and Professor Emma Lees (el348@cam.ac.uk) invite submissions for conference papers from across the broad range of property law scholarship, including equity and the law of trusts. The expectation is that papers accepted for presentation will be offered by the authors for inclusion in the next edition of the Modern Studies in Property Law series (https://www.bloomsbury.com/uk/modern-studies-in-property-law-volume-12-9781509963669/).

For those wishing to make a longer stay in Cambridge, there will be a symposium on 100 Years of the 1925 Property Legislation, on either the previous Thursday or Friday, featuring papers on the law of real property and the law of trusts, to mark anniversary of the six major pieces of legislation that entered into force in 1926. It is anticipated that these also will be published in a collected volume. Please contact Professor Dixon or Dr Julius Grower (julius.grower@st-hughs.ox.ac.uk) for further details.

There will be an opportunity to book accommodation in Queens’ or other Colleges nearby. There will be a modest Conference fee, but we expect to be able to offer some financial support (via sponsored places) to early career researchers (those up to 5 years in their first posts regardless of age). Full details will be available in early summer 2023, but please do not hesitate to contact Martin or Emma for further information.

Offers of papers, comprising a short abstract (no more than 500 words), should be sent to Professor Lees and Professor Dixon by 1 June 2023. We expect drafts for presentation at the Conference to be submitted by 15 March 2024. Revised drafts for publication are likely to be due by 1 September 2024.

Please do get in touch if you need further information. Booking information will be available also by 1 June 2023, or earlier.
